The Sheriff's Advisory Council supports local law enforcement agencies and law enforcement support organizations. Below you will see some of the many organizations that we supported in 2009 and 2010 and what kinds of opportunities were created by these funds.

During the Year of 2010, the Advisory Council made payments for requests for funds received from the Sheriff’s Department, other law enforcement agencies and law enforcement support organizations to:

Service Pins for Sheriff's Employees

Purchased Advisory Council Service Pins for employees achieving various years of service with the Sheriff's Department.

Purchased 5,000 trading cards of Jack the K-9 dog for the purpose of giving to school age children at events and gatherings.

Radio Advertising

Cost to create and announce Sheriff's Advisory Council radio ads for special announcements and community awareness of the Advisory Council.
Family Day at the Ranch

Costs associated with conducting  the annual  18th Sheriff's Day at the Ranch for county residents, including children  to give them an opportunity to meet and ask questions to law enforcement and public safety personnel and see their demonstrations and displays.

Arroyo Grande Police Department - Canine Fundraiser

Contribution towards underwriting a portion of the cost to purchase  two K-9 dogs and the required training for the dogs and officers.
SLO City Police Department - Training
 $2,000
Co-sponsored a two day training presentation of Non-Stranger Sexual Assault Training for law enforcement officers and affiliated community partners.
SLO Fire Investigation Strike Team (SLOFIST)

Tuition for five local enforcement investigators to attend a training program
Cambria CSD Fire Dept. - Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Purchased 40 Safety Vests and 40 Vest Placards
Law Enforcement Support Organizations:
Horse Emergency Evacuation Team (HEET)

Purchased 7 VHF Mobile Radios and ancillary equipment to establish a reliable communications network for use by HEET during evacuations of livestock during emergencies, such as wildfire,

Bus Transportation – SAR Volunteer Funeral

Bus transportation for the  Sheriff's Department's  employees and  Search & Rescue volunteers to attend a funeral in San Jose for a SAR volunteer who was killed in the line of duty at the Oceano Dunes.

Cost to conduct a  Crisis Intervention Training Program to provide law enforcement personnel the insight regarding the concerns  and needs of the mentally ill and how law enforcement personnel can effectively and safely deal with mentally ill people in crisis.

Purchased a Cargo Trailer (5' x 8') for CERT equipment storage and emergencies responses and training , including trailer interior components and graphics.

Scholarships for Law Enforcement Students:
Nicholas Jackson

Son of Deputy Sheriff Eric Jackson who plans to attend Truckee Meadows Community College for Criminal Justice studies.
